Korea Entry Requirements 2026: K-ETA, e-Arrival Card and Q-CODE

How to verify which arrival steps apply to you without confusing separate systems or relying on outdated screenshots.

Quick answer

K-ETA, the e-Arrival Card, and Q-CODE are separate systems. Some designated nationalities are temporarily exempt from K-ETA through 31 December 2026, but eligibility depends on the passport. Use the official K-ETA site, e-Arrival Card navigator, and KDCA Q-CODE guidance for your own case.

Before you decide

  • Check passport validity and visa requirements
  • Verify K-ETA status for your nationality and travel date
  • Check whether an e-Arrival Card is required
  • Confirm current Q-CODE or health declaration rules
  • Use only official domains
  • Save confirmation records offline

Which official system should you check?

K-ETA temporary exemption through 31 December 2026

The Korean government has extended the temporary K-ETA exemption through 31 December 2026 for the countries and regions covered by the measure. This is not a blanket exemption for every passport. Check the current official list or scan the passport information page in the official K-ETA application flow to confirm whether the traveler is shown as exempt.

An eligible traveler may still apply and pay for K-ETA to receive its associated arrival-card benefit. A previously issued K-ETA remains valid until its own expiry date. K-ETA approval or exemption does not guarantee entry; the immigration officer makes the final admission decision at the port of entry.

Keep the systems separate

K-ETA is a pre-travel authorization for eligible visa-free travelers; it is not a visa and approval does not guarantee entry. An approved K-ETA normally removes the arrival-card requirement, but it does not replace customs or health procedures.

The e-Arrival Card is a free immigration declaration completed online within three days before arrival when required. Its official navigator asks about a valid visa, K-ETA, and residence card so you can check your own case.

Q-CODE is a health procedure, not an arrival card

KDCA states that Q-CODE applies to people entering Korea after visiting a quarantine-management area. Information can be entered from seven days before arrival and the QR code should be issued before boarding.

Quarantine areas and health rules can change. Check KDCA for the countries, dates, and symptoms relevant to your journey instead of assuming every passenger must submit Q-CODE.

Avoid application scams

Search advertisements and copycat forms may charge service fees. Start from a government or official tourism link and verify the domain before entering passport information.

What to keep offline

Save approval notices, your first accommodation address, onward travel details, and a contact number. Keep them accessible without mobile data.

A safer verification order

Begin with the Korean embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence when a visa question applies. Then check the official K-ETA and e-Arrival Card services for your travel date. Use VisitKorea as an English-language orientation source, but return to the responsible government service before submitting personal data or payment.

Record the date you checked each rule. Screenshots from older videos and forum posts may describe a valid process that has since expired, changed eligibility, or moved to another official form.

If an official service does not match your situation

Do not guess an answer or use a paid copycat application. Save the error message, confirm the official domain, and contact the responsible immigration or consular channel. SmartRoot Korea can explain the sequence but cannot decide individual eligibility.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need K-ETA for Korea in 2026?

It depends on the passport and travel status. The temporary exemption through 31 December 2026 applies only to designated countries and regions, so confirm your passport on the official K-ETA site.

Does K-ETA approval guarantee entry to Korea?

No. K-ETA is a travel authorization, not a guarantee of admission. The Korean immigration officer makes the final decision at the port of entry.

Does a K-ETA exemption remove every arrival form?

Not necessarily. Each system has its own rules. Check the official arrival guidance for your exact date.

Can SmartRoot Korea confirm my eligibility?

No. SmartRoot Korea organizes the process, but only the responsible government service can make an authoritative determination.
