Privacy policy
This policy describes the limited information SmartRoot Korea processes to operate the website, accept requested guide updates, protect the service, and measure performance when optional tools are enabled.
Private travel tools
Destination addresses and travel notes stay in this browser when you choose Save. They are not uploaded to SmartRoot or included in our custom analytics events. Delete saved notes on shared devices. Clearing browser data also removes them.
Copying, printing, or downloading creates a separate copy under your control. Deleting browser notes does not delete downloaded files. Offline HTML contains the notes and checklist as they were at download time; it does not synchronize changes.
Guide error reports open an email draft containing the page address, title, issue type, and the details you enter. Nothing is sent until you send it using your email service. Avoid including personal documents or account information.
1. Scope and operator
SmartRoot Korea is an independent content website operated from South Korea under the SmartRoot Korea public publishing name. This policy applies to the website, direct email communications, self-hosted newsletter subscriptions, analytics when configured, affiliate links, and advertising technology when activated.
Third-party merchants, booking services, telecom providers, email services, and linked websites process information under their own policies.
2. Information you provide
The newsletter form collects an email address and subscription timestamp. Direct email may contain the sender's address, name, message, correction details, and any information voluntarily included.
Travel checklist progress and analytics consent preferences are stored in your browser. Search terms and planner input values are processed in the browser and are not sent as analytics events. If you opt into analytics, a planner's result category may be measured, but your email and checklist contents are not included.
Do not send passport details, national identification numbers, visa documents, medical records, financial account details, payment-card information, or precise location through general email.
3. Technical information
The site uses Cloudflare for hosting, DNS, content delivery, and security. During our hosting transition, a self-managed NAS in South Korea may also serve the site through a Cloudflare Tunnel. Cloudflare and server infrastructure may process IP address, browser and device information, request time, requested page, referrer, approximate location, and security diagnostics.
SmartRoot Korea does not operate user accounts and does not intentionally collect payment-card information.
4. Newsletter
Newsletter subscriptions contain an email address, subscription timestamp, and consent version. The Cloudflare-hosted site stores them in a Cloudflare D1 database. Subscriptions made on the NAS-hosted site remain in a protected server file unless migrated. No external newsletter delivery platform is currently connected. The address is used only for SmartRoot Korea guide updates requested by the subscriber.
A subscriber can request unsubscribe or deletion at any time. Active records are retained until removal is requested; records needed to complete and document a request are kept only as long as operationally or legally necessary.
5. Analytics, affiliate links, and advertising
Google Analytics 4 is inactive unless a measurement ID is configured. When enabled with appropriate consent, it may receive page views, Web Vitals, completed newsletter signups, and affiliate-link clicks. Newsletter email addresses are not included in those events.
Airalo and its affiliate network may process a click identifier, referrer, device or browser information, IP-derived information, and transaction attribution after a reader follows an affiliate link. SmartRoot Korea may receive referral and commission reporting but not the provider's full payment-card data.
Google AdSense connection code is present for site verification. If advertising is activated, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's previous visits to SmartRoot Korea or other websites. Google's advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to personalize ads where permitted. Visitors can manage or opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. Third-party advertising will not be intentionally displayed until the site is approved and applicable consent requirements are configured.
6. Purposes and legal bases
Information is used to deliver requested updates, respond to messages, correct content, secure and maintain the site, prevent abuse, understand site performance when enabled, administer affiliate reporting, comply with law, and protect legal rights.
Depending on location and activity, processing may rely on consent, a requested service, legitimate interests in security and operation, or legal obligations. Optional measurement or advertising storage will use consent where required.
7. Sharing and international processing
Information is shared only as needed with infrastructure, security, email, analytics, affiliate, advertising, and professional-service providers or public authorities when legally required. Current infrastructure includes a self-hosted NAS and Cloudflare; direct email is handled by the configured email provider.
Cloudflare, Google, Airalo, affiliate networks, and email infrastructure may process information outside South Korea. Their locations, safeguards, and retention practices are governed by their services and applicable law. SmartRoot Korea does not sell personal information for money.
8. Retention and security
Newsletter records remain until unsubscribe or deletion is requested. Direct communications, correction records, security logs, analytics data, and affiliate reports are retained only for the period needed for their purpose, security, dispute handling, accounting, or legal compliance and are then deleted, anonymized, or isolated where appropriate.
Measures include HTTPS, Cloudflare security controls, restricted NAS access, file permissions, software updates, and data minimization. No system can guarantee complete security.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on applicable law, a person may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, withdrawal of consent, or information about processing. Marketing can be stopped at any time. We may verify control of the relevant email address using proportionate information.
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
10. Children, changes, and contact
SmartRoot Korea provides general travel information and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child where parental authorization is legally required.
This policy will be updated when tools, data flows, providers, or legal requirements materially change. The current date appears at the top of this page.
